Coal HarbourCoal Harbour is technically known to be a portion of the West End neighborhood in the eyes of Vancouver, but it features a largely different feel and atmosphere than any other part of the neighborhood. The actual boundaries of Coal Harbour are set loosely, but it sits on the northern banks of the Downtown area. It features high rise buildings that extend to Stanley Park's entrance to the west, toward the south up to Georgia St., and its eastern edge is bordered by the affluent financial district.
As the condos and high-rise buildings of the area started to go up in the area of Coal Harbour, this neighborhood was basically devoid of a cohesive personality or feel (outside of its amazing views of the North Shore Mountains, Stanley Park, and the Harbour. However, due to recent construction in 2000 of the dynamic Coal Harbour Community Centre, a greenspace initiative, and many walking areas and storefronts at the coastline, Coal Harbour has developed into its own “community within a community”.

The cost of a condo in Coal Harbour is higher than in most any other part of Vancouver. Therefore, the stores and shops in the neighborhood are more upscale, with gourmet eateries catering to locals as well as tourists, organic food stores, and high end trendy boutiques. This area has become very popular for older couples with children who have moved out, and also the overseas investors who feel that properties in Coal Harbour are apt to appreciate in value significantly.
Coal Harbour has become very popular among tourists to the area. Despite a growing number of homes and condos, the parks and waterfront remain easily accessible to visitors, as well as residents.
