Visitors arriving from Vancouver Airport will undoubtedly travel through the neighborhood of Marpole first. Marpole is the city of Vancouver's outermost neighborhood, and gives visitors an idea of what they can expect from the city of Vancouver in general. This neighborhood is bordered by the following thoroughfares; to the west by Angus Dr., to the north by 57th Ave., and to the east by Main St. Marpole is bordered to the south by the Fraser River. 

This is one of the oldest neighborhoods in all of Vancouver and its different areas all have very distinct and individual tones to them. On one hand, it has the feel of a quiet suburban neighborhood, with older craftsman styled houses on serene streets, all lined by trees. Conversely, the neighborhood's closeness to Oak St. Bridge (this becomes Highway 99 and leads people towards the suburbs to the south, as well as the US/Canadian border) and Arthur Laing Bridge (this leads to Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport) tends to leave Marpole with substantial traffic jams at times. The industrial portion of Marpole lies at the bank of the Fraser River, whereas their popular shopping district sits at the southern end of Granville St.
